Let Us Not Forget

Let us not forget why it is that we are free. Let us not forget the men who died for you and me. Let us not forget that all gave some... and some gave all. Let us not forget the brave soldiers who put their lives on the line for OUR freedom. Let us not forget the mothers, wives, children, etc. who are left behind after their loved ones have passed on. Let us not forget that our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ died for all of us.

In the words of Lee Greenwood's God Bless America:

If tomorrow all the things were gone, I'd worked for all my life. And I had to start again, with just my children and my wife.

I'd thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can't take that away.

And I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.

That I'm proud to be an American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

And I'm proud to be and American,
where at least I know I'm free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

It's sad that it had to take me losing my brother and dear friend for it to really hit home for me how many people have given their lives for this country. Micheal was a man who quit his comfortable job as an elementary school teacher and joined the Army because he wanted to make a difference.

Amy has shared many times with others a journal entry that Micheal wrote when he joined the Army. I wanted to share it as well. Yes, I got her permission.

"I joined the United States Army because one day I expect to have the honor of meeting George Washington. On that day, I want to shake his hand, look him in the eye, and know that I earned it.

The United States of America is the greatest nation on the face of the earth. The men who created it did so under the watchful eye of our Heavenly Father. They risked everything to do this. They risked families, fortunes, and reputations.

When I graduated from high school our country was at peace. The military was a career option, not a duty that I owed to my country.

September 11, 2001 was an event that changed my relationship with my country. We were attacked and quickly retaliated. I supported my country but felt that I was too old and too busy with college. The war would be over quickly anyway.

As the war on terror progressed, it became clear that the Armed Forces needed men to protect the country. I excused myself by saying that my wife and two young boys needed me at home. I was wrong. You are not a reason to avoid military service. You are exactly the reason that I should serve. I need to step forward and do my duty as a man. You deserve a husband and father who does the right thing -- especially when that requires him to be separated from you.

The day I raised my right hand and swore and oath to defend The Constitution of the United States of America was one of the proudest moments of my life."

Freedom Isn't Free

Amy has an amazing video of Micheal's return from Iraq, when his body was coming in on the plane and much much more. The person who did the video has it posted on the internet. It is about 15 minutes long but I PROMISE you that it will be the best 15 minutes you will spend all day. Take 15 minutes out of your life to remember all who gave for your freedoms. Take the time to remember that we need to be patriotic not just once a year, on Independence Day, but all year. I PROMISE this video will make a difference in your life. (Start it, then pause it and let it buffer a bit for best results)
Micheal Boyd Alleman

The last song on the video is Fallen Flowers by Steve McDonald. It is by far one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard in my entire life. I still can't listen to this song without crying. Here is the youtube link: Fallen Flowers

GOD BLESS AMERICA.... we need it!

Oh Kimberlee! How you bring tears to my eyes. That was such a beautiful post! You are so loving and patriotic and I love you and Josh for that! It's amazing how many things have really hit home since Micheal joined the Army. I'm so grateful to live in a free nation with liberties and that there are so many that sacrifice to give it to us. I love my Micheal so much!
